The Caravan Festival 2013

Kimberly Odekirk showcases 2 fiberglass donkeys at the Caravan Festival of Arts 2013 among 45 of Egypt's most prominent, contemporary national and international artists. The challenge was to come together as artists of various ethnic and religious backgrounds, and through our strengths in art, bridge the commonalities of our diverse world. Kimberly's donkeys represent a grazing mother and child, blissfully and peacefully wandering through a field of abundant clover, which are shared and hopeful ideals for all living creatures. There is a secret identifier on the hips of each donkey, hidden within the clover through which they are passing. Can you see them?

For two weeks, 90 donkeys were exhibited across Cairo at various venues, including hotels, art galleries and cultural and educational institutions before moving to Europe in public art exhibitions.

Some of the locations included: Four Seasons Hotel (First Residence and Nile Plaza), Kempinski Nile Hotel, Cairo Marriott Hotel, Sofitel El-Gezira. Picasso gallery, Mashrabia, Gallery Misr, Zamalek Art Gallery, ArtTalks, Al-Masar, Safarkhan, British Council, Community Services Association (Maadi), St John's Church, Cairo American College and American University in Cairo.

Kimberly Odekirk is a founding artist of the Caravan, which began five years ago with the motto to use art as a tool to nurture relationships between the East and West, Muslims, and Christians. Keeping with this year's theme, "In Peace and With Compassion ... The Way Forward," the donkey was chosen as a symbol of peace. In Christianity and Islam, Jesus and Omar Ibn El-Khattab rode donkeys into Jerusalem.
