About the Artist
Graduating from California State University (CSUN), Kimberly Odekirk earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art with an emphasis in textiles and design. Additional graduate degrees and teaching credentials in art education were earned in California and Washington, USA.
Kimberly has pursued vocations in fine art, teaching and interior design in many culturally rich areas in the United States, during a Peace Corps tour in Belize, Central America, and presently in Cairo, Egypt. As a professional artist, educator, and designer, Ms. Odekirk has continued to pursue her personal expression of art throughout the journey.
Inspired by the rich environs of these work locations and her extensive world-wide travels, Kimberly has pioneered the ancient art of batik, a media often primitive and inexact, and projected it into the 21st. century by implementing realistic, abstract, and Impressionist painting techniques. Sand from the Sahara and water from the Nile River are essential elements in her batik, acrylic and oil paintings. By mixing media in this unique way, Ms. Odekirk has achieved a character of depth, perspective, and realism in her images without compromising the unique colors and character of her media. The images reflect her lifelong interests in the faces of humanity, the beauty of local scenes, and the wonderful world of architecture, worldwide.
